For Immediate Release
WIN PICK NINE POOL STANDS AT $94,822

Pomona, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2009) -- With only three days left on the Fairplex Park racing calendar, the $1 win pick nine pool continues to baffle the wagering public.

Through the first dozen afternoons of sport no one has been able to isolate all the winners in the $1 win pick nine and the carryover pool now stands at $94,822 for Saturday.

If no one selects all the winners on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a mandatory payout on Monday (Sept. 28), closing day.

Jockey David Flores won the inaugural running of the $50,000 Palomares Stakes with the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained 3-year-old filly Kaweah Princess on Friday.

Kaweah Princess broke on top in the 1 1/16 mile race and settled into third position behind Summers Peace and Broken Silence.

Into the far turn Flores drove Kaweah Princess up three wide, opened a two length advantage into the stretch and prevailed by 1   lengths in 1:46.58.

Sweet Golden Carol rallied for second with Broken Silence fading to third.

"We had been looking and looking for a place to run her and there really wasn't anything," said Dan Ward, assistant to Hollendorfer. "So, we decided to go here and it worked out well.

"I'll talk to Jerry and he may target the ($100,000) Harold Ramser (at Oak Tree on Oct. 24) for her next start."

The Palomares was Kaweah Princess' seventh career race. She had won three in a row at Golden Gate and the Stockton Fair before finishing unplaced in both the San Clemente and Sandy Blue handicaps at Del Mar. Both races were on the grass.

Kaweah Princess paid $6.60, $3.60 and $3.60 (cq) and banked $30,000, giving her lifetime earnings of $102,200.

On Saturday Fairplex will offer a stakes double header, the $50,000 Las Madrinas Handicap for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, and the $50,000 Pomona Derby.

Both races are at 1 1/16 miles.

Ashley's Kitty is the 8-5 favorite in the Las Madrinas, while All Saint is the 2-1 choice in the Pomona Derby.

First post for the 12-race card is 1 p.m.
